We've developed the First National Direct 2U website to make it as easy as possible for blind or partially-sighted users to use. Not only does it meet recommended international standards, but there are many extra features to make it even easier for everyone. They include:
- The Size of the Text
- Making Web Pages Look Simpler
- Page Layouts
- Portable Document Files (PDFs)
- Links to PDFs and other Websites
- Skipping Content
- Site Map
You can make the text either bigger or smaller to suit you. How you do it depends on the system and web browser you're using. This is how to change the text size in the most commonly used browsers:
PCs
- If you've got Internet Explorer, go to "View" on the top menu bar of the browser, scroll down and select "Text Size", then choose the size you need.
- If you're using Netscape, Mozilla and Internet Explorer, go to "View" in the top bar, select "Text Zoom" or "Text size" and choose the size you need.
Macs
- In Netscape or Internet Explorer, go to "View" in the top bar, then select "Text Zoom" or "Text size" and choose the size you need.
- In Safari go to "View" in the top bar of the browser, then choose "Make text bigger" or "Make text smaller" in the dropdown menu.
If you're using another browser, check its "Help" facility to find out how to do it.
You can change the appearance of pages (the style sheet) to make them easier to read. This is how to change the style sheet in the most commonly used browsers:
PCs
- In Internet Explorer, go to "Tools" on the top menu bar, select "Internet Options", then click on the "Accessibility" button. Click the top 3 boxes in the pop-up window. If you want to make your own style, you can do it by following the instructions in the lower half of the pop-up window.
Macs
- In Internet Explorer under the "Explorer" menu, select "Preferences", then "Web Browser" then "Web Content". In the "Page Content" area, clear the check boxes next to the items you don't want, including the style sheet.
- If you're using Safari, go to the "Safari" menu, select "Preferences" then "Advanced". Other style sheets can be attached here.
If you are using any other browser, check its "Help" facility to find out how to do it.
Most of the pages on the website have been arranged in columns and you'll find that:
- Menus always appear at the top of the page
- The left-hand column contains useful information.
- The centre column contains the main content of the page.
- The right-hand column contains contact details
Sometimes you'll find items on the website that are provided in a "PDF" format. You'll need to have Adobe Reader® - Version 5 or above on your computer to read these documents. If you haven't, you can get it from the Adobe website (opens in a new browser window)
If you need to convert a PDF please see Adobe's online conversion tools.
Links to PDFs and other websites all open in a new browser window.
If you're using screen-reading software, you may wish to skip the menus once you've got to know the website well. However, we've built options in to each page to allow you to go to either page content or menus.
You can use your keyboard to navigate around the website. There are 10 "access keys" that act as shortcuts to take you to the main parts of the site. They are:
- 1 - Home page
- 2 - Documentation
- 3 - Product Information
- 4 - About Us
- 5 - Contact Us
- 6 - Affordability Calculator
- 7 - KFI Generator
- 8 - Site Map
- 9 - Legal Notice
- 0 - Accessibility
This is how you use them on the most commonly used browsers:
PCs
- In Internet Explorer press or hold down the ALT key, followed by the access key number or letter, then press the ENTER key.
- In Netscape press or hold down the ALT key and the access key number or letter.
Macs

If you're using any other browser, check its "Help" facility to find out how to use access keys.
